PACK OF LIES Starring Alan Bates, Ellen Burstyn and Teri Garr
Based on true events surrounding Peter & Helen Kroger who were part of the Portland Spy ring operating in Britain in the 1950s and 60s. Barbara Jackson (Ellen Burstyn) is the perfect middle-class English woman, quiet, dutiful and even tempered. Her American neighbor Helen Schaefer is the complete opposite: outspoken, mercurial and vivacious. However, their unlikely friendship is put to a terrible test when a British security official (Alan Bates) asks Barbara if she will give permission for her home to be used as a lookout post during an espionage operation. In the interest of "national security", Barbara reluctantly agrees to cooperate. Only later does she realize the investigation may involve betraying her friend Helen.
