Casey is a female Orangutan. She is no ordinary ape; she is a primate that has been taught the American Sign Language by her owner, trainer Dolly McKeever (played by the Academy Award-winning actress Louise Fletcher). This means that Casey can communicate and knows over 600 signs and words. However, when Dolly has an unfortunate car crash. Casey suddenly finds herself a lost and lonely runaway. That is, until she reaches the Wyler Farm in Salem, Oregon. There live 10-year-old deaf Toby and his younger sister Jill. Both are fluent in the American Sign Language. In their private hideaway a little tree-house, unbeknown to their parents, an amazing relationship begins. A love story between a remarkable deaf boy and an incredible animal.
