Elizabeth Birch and her husband Jack are a typical suburban couple, with the typical troubles dealing with their kids, including a 13-year-old daughter, Cathy. One horrible day, Cathy simply disappears from home without a trace. Police, neighbors and volunteers help Elizabeth and Jack search the nearby woods. When they come up empty, the police give up. But not Elizabeth. She uses every means at her disposal, even the help of a psychic to find her beloved child. Suddenly, friends and neighbors all become suspect to her. Even Jack isn't above suspicion. When Cathy's body is found 40 miles from home, Elizabeth's harrowing search starts all over again. This time she's after a killer. And when the police give up the investigation for lack of evidence. Elizabeth risks her own life to find it.
