Rod and Jill Tyler live a perfect married life with their two adopted children, Catherine and her younger brother, Eric. Just as it seems life couldn’t be better, the couple become concerned at Catherine’s increasingly sinister behaviour. She exerts a cruel, oppressive influence over Eric, and the surrounding adults are manipulated with a devilish cunning. But when her violent fits of mania threaten to become psychopathic, her parents know the answer must lie in her tragic past. In depression, they turn to a controversial form of treatment that reveals a trauma so horrifying that the ordeal of rescuing Catherine can strengthen the family bond, or destroy it.
