Celebrating their third wedding anniversary, Joanna Winters (Michelle Green) and her husband Dan (Bruce Dinsmore) await the arrival of Joanna's wealthy mother, Vivian. Having forgotten her daughter's gift, Vivian returns to her home, where she finds the maintenance man Roy and his partner Jack (Steve Railsback) stealing an expensive diamond necklace. In their struggle, Vivian and Roy tumble down the stairs into the basement and the diamond necklace slips between the cellar floorboards. Jack is driven off by the arrival of a neighbor, who finds Vivian and Roy's bodies. Later, Joanna decides to get more involved in her family's company that Dan has been running since Vivian's death. Joanna plans on to review the company's financial records after she finalizes things at her mother's house. Marla, the company's sexy controller-and also Dan's mistress-informs Dan of Joanna's impending plan. Dan realizes that if Joanna reviews the company books, she will discover that he has been embezzling and gambling away her family's fortune. Dan tells Marla that he will kill Joanna during the weekend and make it look like an accident. Jack, after spending time in jail for an unrelated crime, returns to the house to retrieve the diamond necklace that fell between the floorboards during the robbery. He poses as a stranded motorist, and Joanna lets him stay in the guestroom for an overnight. An insurance investigator turned criminal, Alex, is also on the trail of the necklace. He stays at Joanna's friend's bed-and-breakfast and is awaiting an opportunity to get into the house to search for the treasure. Joanna, faced with greed and treachery, has to make a difficult choice on whom to trust if she is to survive the weekend.
