Valerie Bertinelli stars in the dramatic tale of one mother's battle against an unjust legal system to regain custody of her only child. Divorced and struggling to make ends meet, Stephanie Monroe (Bertinelli) waits tables during the day and studies to be a computer operator at night, all in the hope of creating a better life for herself and her eight-year-old daughter Abby (Juliet Sorcey). Unable to afford child care, Stephanie is forced to leave Abby home for a few hours in the afternoon.
While alone, Abby confronts a minor emergency and dials 911 as her mother has taught her. But instead of providing assistance, the call results in charges of child neglect, and suddenly Stephanie’s daughter is taken away by the welfare system. With few resources and little hope, Stephanie embarks on the challenge of her life, to fight through a maze of legal entanglements and bring her daughter home.
