Based on the true story of how an amateur soccer team from the small mining town of West Auckland in the North East of England, were chosen to represent Great Britain in the first World Cup Trophy competition in Turin, Italy in 1910. Dennis Waterman stars as the rugged miner, Bob Jones, Captain of the West Auckland team who, after selling their meagre possessions to finance the trip, they journey to Turin. Distractions in Italy prove numerous to the miners, most of whom have never before travelled outside their native North East, but they battle through to the final of the competition where they face the mighty Juventus.
