Biography movie of the child and dog hating comic genius. After starring in Ziegfeld shows on Broadway, Fields (Rod Steiger) becomes disillusioned with the life he has become accustomed to. He moves to Hollywood in search of stardom, but as success hits, so does alcohol abuse and insecurity. It also stars Valerie Perrine as Fields' long term partner.
